Scout

Scout is our large Percheron-Paint mix from Madison, Georgia. He was donated to Stride Ahead by a volunteer who thought we needed a bigger horse for veterans and larger riders. Percherons were originally bred in France as warhorses to carry heavily armored knights.

Scout may be big, but he’s got a big heart to match. He’s always quick to assume the role of guardian, making sure to steer the rest of the herd away from the leaf blower across the street. And despite being powerful and confident, he takes equal care of his riders, approaching anyone new with careful consideration. We’re able to put riders with spinal cord injuries on him without any hesitation.

Scout’s strength, care, and silliness all make him a popular fixture around the stables, and he is currently the only Stride Ahead horse with a penchant for playing frisbee.
